Back pain can be caused by several factors and structures within the back. This can originate from a small strain in the muscles to a large disc bulge with sciatica (nerve irritation). It can sometimes be difficult to pin point the origin or cause of the pain and this in turn may cause further issues due to avoiding certain spinal movements or compensation mechanisms.

What are the causes of Back Pain?

Pain in the lower back is particularly common, although it can be felt anywhere along the spine, from the neck down to the hips. In most cases the pain is not caused by anything serious and will usually settle after a few days. However, it is recommended to get help if:

  • the pain does fail to improve
  • the pain stops you doing your day-to-day activities
  • the pain is severe or spreads into the legs or feet.
  • you're worried about the pain or are struggling to cope.

How can Pro Point Physio help?

Here at Pro Point Physio we have clinical specialists who can help you with all aspects of your back pain. As experts in our field, we can give a clear diagnosis and treatment plan to help to start to improve your symptoms as well as your general spinal health. We also work for the Dorset Musculoskeletal spinal team and are highly trained to deal with all painful conditions of the back.

We use hands on treatments of mobilisations, massage and stretching to help offload the painful areas of the back.  We are also able to use other techniques such as certain types of acupuncture, electrotherapy and exercise to help relieve back pain. We also work closely with local GP’s and Orthopaedic Consultants to enable you to access further care should symptoms fail to settle or worsen.
